Where are the breakthroughs in the origins of life

As much as life is convoluted, its origin is shrouded in mystery. The study of the origins of life is about how molecules organized into self-replicating systems that then evolved into the common ancestor of present-day life.

Studying life’s origins can teach us about life itself and help guide our search for life elsewhere. If we accept that life’s origins are rooted in the chemical domain, the so-called prebiotic soup, then the question becomes how a chemical system can achieve sufficient complexity, replicate, and evolve.

This talk will give an introduction to this field and how we can scientifically study it, and what might be the next frontier in its studies.
